Blessed Sacrament School
Scrip Program

SCRIP was started in a small California parish. They had been notified by their Archdiocese that they would have to close their school because they were broke. Their only option was to come up with an idea to raise money to save the school. A few membe rs got together and came up with the idea of SCRIP. The first year they made $30,000. Last year they made $116,000! Isn't it amazing what people can do when they put their heads, their hearts and their determination together? I have told you how SCRIP was started. It is time to tell you how it works and how you can get involved.

SCRIP has been in Blessed Sacrament School since last fall. In 7 months they raised just a little over $3000.00. That was done with approximately 50 parents being involved. Now that we have the whole church behind us think of the purchasing power we cou ld have.

Sunday before or after Mass you can go to the wing between the church and the parish center. There will be friendly people to help you through the procedure. You will look over the order form that lists all the participating stores. After you decide on what you want to purchase, someone will get your SCRIP. Write a check or pay cash for the amount. EASY! If your SCRIPT is not available, you fill out one of the order forms, write a check, and they will order for you. You pick it up on Wednesday. Ag ain, EASY!

The wonderful thing about this program is that no one is asking you to spend money that you weren't already going to spend. Everyone needs groceries, gas and clothing. All that we are asking you to do is to think before you buy. If you can buy it with scrip, please do so.

Need ideas? My sister is saving for Christmas by purchasing a $10.00 SCRIP certificate for WalMart each week. Someone from our parish asked the Pharmacist at K-Mart if they could purchase prescriptions with SCRIP and he said, "Yes." Another person is pl anning on finishing their deck. They plan on purchasing Scrip for Menards. One family will enjoy drapes from Penneys purchased with SCRIP. SCRIP works wonderfully for breakfast at the HyVee Deli after church. The ways in which you can use SCRIP are en dless.

How does Blessed Sacrament School profit from all of this? I will use Econo Foods as an example only because they give 5% and that is easy to figure. If you buy a $10.00 SCRIP certificate for Econo Foods, you pay Blessed Sacrament $10.00. They purchase that $10.00 certificate for $9.50. It will be worth $10.00 to you and will spend 'just like a ten dollar bill. The only difference will be that Blessed Sacrament will be 50 cents richer. Isn't that amazing? Think of all the people who are members of Bl essed Sacrament that you see in the grocery store every week. Now multiply that by 50 cents. WOW!

You can profit from this program even if your child doesn't go to Blessed Sacrament School. In helping the school be fiscally sound you are also easing the strain on the parish budget. Let's think of this as a parish project.

After reading- this remember, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained", or if you are a sports enthusiast, "JUST DO IT!" Blessed Sacrament School is known as the Crusaders. Can you think of a better thing to crusade for than our parish? Thank you for trying t his program.
