MOMS was created in the Fall of 1996 by Paula Hagen, OSB, and a group of mothers at St.Timothy's Parish in Mesa,
Arizona. It was designed to encourage prayer, discussion and friendships between mothers of all ages. St Timothy's
has offered over 30 MOMS classed facilitated by mothers. In 1993, it was published and was marked nationally.
Over 50% of the participants have continued in on-going study groups and have been more actively involved as leaders
in a variety of comunity and family issues. Currently over 75 diocese and 15 retreat centers in the United States,
Canada, and Ecuador have initiated MOMS.
This on-going peer ministry begins with a series of eight structured sessions, including suggested prayer rituals and
a list of resources for on-going study. A staff liaison supervises the scheduling of the sessions, the child care
ministry, and training of leaders on the CORE team.
